It may not come as a surprise to you, but the energy on this planet is a bit crazy right now. For those of us who are sensitives, it may be wreaking havoc on you in a lot of ways. But for all of us, it’s a time to be gentle and compassionate, not just to others, but also to ourselves.
Feeling the Energy of Others
Personally, I am very aware of what I’m feeling, and often the feelings of others. At times I can literally step outside with my dogs and feel that the energy is not good. I feel agitated, anxious and stressed. But I know that’s not how I felt before I stepped outside, so it’s not mine. I usually just ask the Universe to clear and protect me and my dogs from the outside energies – anything that isn’t ours. Most days I also make the effort to find calm, take breaks to just sit and close my eyes and breathe, or meditate. It’s crazy how the energy of others can affect us and we need to do what we can to come back to ourselves.
Have you ever had the experience of walking into a room where there are other people and immediately feel a certain way? Or perhaps you are talking to someone but can tell they are holding back their real feelings at the moment? But you can feel the sadness, or anxiety without them telling you. Be it happy or somber, you sometimes feel it before you notice it in the people. It’s not something that comes from your brain so much as your intuition and your emotions – you feel it. If you stopped and looked for it, you’d probably miss it. It’s something you notice – not something you look for.
I’m not sure if that makes sense, but I’m sure you’ve had those intuitive moments where you felt you needed to do something in that moment without any thoughts about it. Like suddenly you feel inclined that you need to turn left when you normally turn right. It’s instantaneous and you can’t explain it, but your instincts told you to do it, and you can’t overthink it. It’s the same sort of thing here. You have an instantaneous feeling that you can’t explain. You just know what you feel. The key thing is to notice the feeling in the room or the person, and not immerse yourself in it if it’s not what you want to feel. You can consciously and intentionally separate yourself as needed.
Learning to Be Aware
Actually, you can feel the energy of a space, a group, or an event in your body at any time. If you want to decide whether or not to attend something or meet someone, sit quietly with your eyes closed and imagine yourself there and see how it feels in your body. Does it feel light and bubbly, even happy? That’s probably good energy and a good sign. What if it feels heavy, dark and tight in your body? Maybe not good energy there. So you can actually feel in advance how the energy of an event, group or person will affect you so you can decide accordingly if you even want to go, and even protect yourself accordingly if needed.
We are All Connected
If there is a crazy or tragic event in the world, that can set us off as well. When so many people are feeling sad, anxious, angry, fearful – we can often feel that. Even if we aren’t watching the news and submersing ourselves in the details. Trying to separate yourself completely from it often just isn’t possible. Again, you can pray, ask for your energy to be cleared, use clearing rituals and more, which should help. (We’ll talk about that in more detail in a minute.) However, we have to continue to be gentle with ourselves and with everyone – knowing that we are all feeling it on some level.
I know it’s been said that ‘we are all one’, but it’s really true. We feel the overall energy of all beings on the planet. There is no way to completely separate ourselves from it. We are a part of it all. And we need to learn how to recognize it, how to protect ourselves from some of the heaviness of it, and of course to find our own center and peace.
With fear and anxiety being very prevalent right now, we want to be able to find our way back to love, and living in a loving way rather than a fearful way. Not only that, but if more people can learn to do this, the overall energy of the planet will shift. It’s a major step toward planetary change to help yourself find your way toward gentleness, compassion, and loving yourself through it. It will also enable you to take those feelings out into the world and be the same toward others.
Self-Love and Energetic Protection
Let’s talk a little about some of the different ways that you can not only be loving and gentle toward yourself with harsh energies around you, but also how you can protect yourself. I do find that I need more alone and quiet time lately. Social settings carry all the energies of the planet right now, and while sometimes they are positive or calm, it can still be overwhelming to some. I find that I need the balance of quiet time alone – whether that’s a bike ride, painting or journaling. Make sure you find the things that make you feel peaceful and happy and do them frequently.
So what about protection from all this crazy energy? There are so many ways you can protect yourself. It all depends on what resonates with you. You can start with a prayer, a visualization of light around you, or even a cleansing shower (water can clear away negative energy). Others may like to use the smoldering smoke of sage or palo santo wood to clear their space or their own energy. There are also essential oils and crystals that all hold different energetic properties. You might like to use an oil diffuser, or even put the oil right on your skin. Some healing oils would be lavender, frankincense, or lemon – though there are many others.
For crystals, a few good ones for protection and clearing might be Black Tourmaline, Amethyst, Smokey Quartz or Labradorite. You can carry these with you or keep them in your home. There are even energy clearing sprays, sacred geometry (symbols), rituals, meditations, and so much more. And perhaps even something from your particular religion or belief system that symbolizes safety, protection or clearing from negative energy. It’s really up to us to decide what feels right and what helps us.
You Can Find Balance, and Protection
Despite all the crazy energies that affect us every day, we don’t need to hide out in lockdown. We are connected to everything in this world and the energy is all around us all the time. We need to learn to be aware, to notice it, to protect ourselves from the negative energy and to clear it from ourselves and our space when needed. And, of course, surround ourselves with beings who generally have loving, gentle energy so we can lift each other up.
So just be gentle to yourself. Notice when you feel emotions and assess where they are coming from (you or the outside world). Find the things that help to stabilize and protect you – perhaps even create your own rituals for this. Take time for yourself – find balance and alone time to re-energize yourself. Because if we can do this for ourselves individually, we will help anchor the planet in this calm and stable energy. So do it for yourself, but also do it for the good of the world.
