My last apartment came to me in a very clear sign. I wasn’t even looking to move at the time, but I saw it across a parking lot and felt immediately that I needed to inquire about it. It was not only available, but it was unit 111, which is a number of new beginnings. I felt it was all a sign and that I was divinely guided to live there. I did, and while I didn’t live there very long, it was clearly a stepping stone for me and it felt like it was something I needed to do.
When We Create Our Own ‘Signs’
Sometimes though we get signs (or we think they are signs), and we don’t feel right about it. For example, I recently had my apartment lease come due, and I felt like maybe I needed to look around. I even had a psychic tell me last summer that a great new place with wonderful energy would be mine soon. So I decided to go looking for it! Was this a sign? No. It was me wondering if that’s what I needed to do really. I was told I would find a great new place, so I assumed it needed to go looking. Really, I should know better. The Universe will SHOW you your great new place if you are meant to move. Not that the psychic was wrong. There is no timeline though. Things will happen in Divine time. You can’t force your own timelines on things.
I went looking though, and funny enough, one of the first places I looked at was unit 111 in the building, which really built up my expectation! The same sign as before! I walked in and fell in love with the place too. It was everything I wanted really. Or was it? After I came down from my euphoric high, assuming that this was all Divinely guided, I came home and really felt it out. I realized it a lovely place for me, but horrible for my dogs. They would be giving up so much space and freedom that we have in our place now. It didn’t make sense at all and stressed me to think about living there.
Lessons in Letting Go
So why in the world did the Universe show me the same number that was a strong sign to me in the past? Honestly, I felt it was a test, or a lesson if you will. Lately I’ve been shown many ‘signs’ like this, where I have to gut check it and see if it’s right for me, despite what I believe to be a ‘sign’. I think we get very caught up in what we are told, shown, and what we presume to be right for us. But did you think to ask yourself if it’s right for you? And I’m not talking about thinking it through – I’m talking about checking in with how you feel about it. When you are calm and can check in with yourself, how does it feel to you?
The Universe didn’t send me to that apartment though – I went looking on my own initiative, not Divinely guided, but thinking that I needed to find that great new place the psychic had spoken of. There was no big sign that I needed to move. Actually there were several to the contrary in the week before – several people talking about re-signing their lease because they had it so good where they were at.
Pushing Takes You Off Course
It can all be a little confusing at times. The Universe will show us the way through guidance, but sometimes we push or lead in a way that takes us off course. Sometimes we do things we THINK are right, but we forget to feel it out, to check in, or even ask for signs and wait.
I believe you should always follow your own gut – your own feelings – your own heart first! Only YOU know what’s best for you, and as long as you aren’t ruling things out exclusively with your thoughts, but with how you FEEL about it, then you will be on the right track.
It’s Time to Get Clear
An easy way to start with figuring this out is to sit quietly, maybe close your eyes, and test your ‘options’ in your body. So maybe if you’re considering a few different apartments, think about each one – living there, the day to day, the building and surroundings, etc. See how it makes your body feel. Does it make you feel happy and your heart full? Or does it give you an achy feeling in your stomach or make your muscles tighten up? Your body is constantly telling you how you feel about everything – you just have to pay attention.
My epiphany came when I had looked at several places, and nothing felt exactly right. I even felt a little anxiety when I realized I needed to make my decision soon. But then when I sat down and felt it out – testing out how I felt about my current apartment – I actually realized it felt good to me. While it’s not perfect, it works for the dogs and I right now, and I’m not going to settle for something that doesn’t feel as good to me.
Don’t Go Looking for it – It Will Come to You
I honestly feel like this was a lesson in ‘false’ signs, or creating my own signs really out of worry or impatience about what I thought I ‘should’ do. Signs shouldn’t be something you look for either. It’s a matter of surrendering the issue and knowing that guidance will come if and when needed.
Mind you, if there had been many obvious signs, a better option, and it felt like a clear path – AND if felt right to me – I probably would have taken the leap. However, as I tested it all in my body, I realized it wasn’t right. I was the one who was worried that maybe I needed a new place. I was the one doing what I THOUGHT I needed to do. And I was the one desperately looking for signs because I thought I needed to act. But it was all created out of my own concern about moving myself and my life forward. I can see that now.
Find Peace, Not Fear
Sometimes we also go to a place of fear, worry, or anxiety and think we are doing the right thing, but we are just reacting to those feelings. When we can actually calm down and feel it out, we usually see things more clearly and know that if we are acting from our feelings (in a more peaceful and relaxed state) or our gut, we would do something quite different. I’ve learned that trying to push things forward never works. You have to wait for the right timing and to be shown the path clearly.
Relax and Trust the Universe
This all said, I also want to point out that most of the time you really are being guided, and you can heed that guidance or not. It really is in your best interest, and it will usually come out of the blue and feel inexplicably right and you won’t know why. Like feeling you need to take a different route home one day and finding out later there was an accident on your regular route home. The Universe guides you in lovely ways all day long. It’s good to follow your guidance. It’s how the Universe keeps you safe, and on your path.
What I’m also saying here is that sometimes something is NOT a sign, and that’s usually because we are creating it ourselves with our fearful, impatient thoughts and grasping. You have to notice that. You have to test it in your own body. Does it feel right? Is it coming from you, or the Universe? Only you will know.
