There are often times in our life when we feel like we need to act, or make a change. Sometimes we even take the leap and trust that we are making the right decision. But the challenge comes after that. When things may even get tough, and you start to question yourself and your decision, or even you own gut feelings. It’s like being sent out into the darkness in search of the light and it’s nowhere to be found. That’s when you have to dig for your faith in where you are being led, and that’s not always easy.
Currently I’m in the middle of a move. Mind you, I just moved 6 months ago. It came about when my asthma had been acting up worse than ever for a solid month (in the middle of winter), and I realized I needed to get out of my apartment. It was an abrupt moment where it came to me that I needed to find a new place. And in the same moment I remembered a friend I had seen a few weeks prior that told me how she loved her apartment building. So off I went to see it, and of course they had a perfect apartment to accommodate me and my dogs which was available immediately. I made the commitment and put things in order to move.
It all seemed so perfect and fell into place, and even my friends and family agreed that is seemed like the best decision. However, that doesn’t mean that doubt won’t creep in. It has almost every single day at some point. But let me tell you this. Nothing is perfect. The Universe guides you toward better, and if you reach for it and take it, then it will be even better next time. Or for that matter, lead to other better things in your life. If you can just have faith in the signs, life will lead you in the right direction. Overthinking it won’t help anything. It’s about trusting, believing and moving forward.
Following the Signs
Mind you, some people do get confused as to what is a sign and what isn’t. Our chattering brains are all over the place sometimes. So how do you know what’s divinely inspired and what is just our head talking? That’s not always easy or clear, but often when an idea pops in your head suddenly – that’s divine. When you start to rationalize it away, that is NOT divine. That is you talking yourself out of having faith in that inspired moment or sign. We all do it. But the amazing life we dream of comes to us only when we don’t talk ourselves out of it.
It may also be that your guidance or divine inspiration comes in sort of a puzzle of pieces like mine did in this case. I ran into a friend who told me about her great apartment and thought nothing of it. Weeks later I feel like I’m dying from my asthma and it pops into my head one morning that I need to move. Then as I think, “well where would I go?”, my friend and her comment pops into my head. I’m one of those people that follows that divine inspiration when I get it, and I immediately acted. I feel that there are bigger reasons really than just my asthma, and I have faith that I will see that in the future. For now it’s just for me to pack and make it happen.
A Divine Path is Easy
I also tend to be of the belief that things that are meant to be for you, or are divinely inspired, will be easy. Or things will align to make it happen. One example of this is that when I called the other apartment building and they had the one unit I wanted available to me immediately. And then when I told my current apartment manager I was going to break my lease – she found someone to rent it in a few days. Easy! Even when you make big, difficult changes, things will fall into place for you. While explaining it to others (or feeling the emotions of it all) may be challenging, overall things will work out for you in the big picture in magical ways.
If you have taken a wrong path, or not followed the guidance you were given, you will have challenges. Sometimes big challenges. So say, for example, the universe was guiding you to your perfect mate, and you passed them by (ignoring your guidance) and went for a challenging person instead. Well, that relationship is going to teach you some lessons and will not end well – or you will go on in it for years (or a lifetime) of relative misery, challenges, or just continuing to stuff your own feelings.
Not to say that you won’t have challenges on a divinely guided path, because you will. Going through a divorce was incredibly challenging, but I clearly felt the joy of my decision right from the start. And all the challenges worked themselves out over time. When I look back now, it was all rather perfect in many ways. Difficult at times, but perfect.
Asking for Signs
So how do you avoid making the wrong decisions, or perhaps start ‘fixing’ your unhappy life now? Listen for your guidance. Ask for signs. Be aware. Whether it’s a ‘crazy’ idea that pops into your head, a strong gut feeling or feeling in your heart, or very clear signs in other ways that show you what you need to do. We get SO MANY signs! If you’d just pay attention and stop talking yourself out of it or rationalizing them away, you would be so happy!
Seriously, all the Universe wants for us is to find true happiness. We are shown the way every day. We are the ones that overthink it, talk ourselves out of it, feel like we’re stuck, or don’t deserve better. You DO deserve it! Just stop when you get that feeling, that idea or that sign. Take note of how it feels to you. It may seem crazy, but let me tell you that some of the people that seem the craziest by changing their life on a dime are often the people that know how to follow divine guidance and end up on an amazing life path!
Being the ‘Crazy’ One
I will also say that people WILL think you are crazy sometimes. I’ve had that all along the way in my life. Like when I divorced my husband, who was a narcissist, who everything thought was so ‘nice’ and couldn’t figure out why I would leave him. It was frustrating that people couldn’t see it through my eyes, but I didn’t care. It’s my life. I wasn’t happy and needed to do it for myself. And the sign came clearly to me that it was time.
It was the same at other times of my life too. I left jobs with amazing companies that I was miserable in (and got signs it was time to leave), but everyone told me I was crazy to leave. You have to do what is right for you and tune out everyone who doesn’t ‘get it’. There will always be the people who judge you or walk away from you based on your decisions. I will tell you that it’s worth it. Let them go. You need to live your life for YOU, not for them.
I will also tell you not to let time pass. When the Universe guides you, you are being given an immediate path. It’s like an opening in the fold or something. Everything is aligning in that moment to give you the perfect opportunity to make that needed change. When you ignore it, or overthink it, you are closing the doors on those opportunities the Universe is giving you. And I guarantee that you will always talk yourself out of it if you don’t act right away, especially when it involves big changes. Take the leap. Trust. Even you might think it’s all a little bit crazy, but do it anyway.
I have really worked to do this of late, more than ever. No questioning myself. No doubting what I’m being guided to do, especially when I feel it’s right in my heart. It’s all about letting go and allowing yourself to be guided and trusting it. I’m not the one leading here. The Universe is. It takes a LOT of faith to do that. But if you can trust the Universe to guide you every step of the way on your best possible path, you will ultimately live your best possible life!
