I believe most people don’t dream big enough because they don’t think it’s possible. Many people don’t want to even dream or wish for more because they worry that they’ll never achieve it, or they fear that they’ll give up “good enough” and lose it all. They worry that they are “setting themselves up for disappointment”. Unfortunately though, you also aren’t opening yourself up to opportunity. You aren’t allowing yourself to have something better. And you definitely aren’t moving towards your dreams if you don’t even have any.
Happiness is Living Life YOUR Way
It seems like many people are either doing what they think they SHOULD do, or what other people think they SHOULD do, or even what they feel is socially acceptable with their family, friends or neighbors. They want to “keep up with the Joneses”. They want to be respected. But being respected doesn’t always bring happiness. Especially if your soul is pulling you in a different direction. Or for that matter if you are completely miserable in some or all aspects of your life but trying to put on a happy face. After all, if you have it all according to what society tells you happiness should be, why then aren’t you happy?
“The voice of our original self is often muffled, overwhelmed, even strangled, by the voices of other people’s expectations.” – Julie Cameron
What is your Gut Telling You?
You need to listen to your inner voice. Some of you won’t have a clue what that means though because you’re too busy doing, and buying, and fixing up your outer appearance (of yourself, your home, your career, your relationship,…). But if you would stop for a bit. I mean it. Stop. Find a quiet place. Or a not-so-quiet place, but at least where you can be alone. In the shower, in a park, at your desk at work, on the bus. Wherever. But close your eyes and just breathe for a few minutes. Ask yourself if you’re happy? Breathe a little more. See what you feel. Ask yourself what would make you happy? Breathe a little more. See what you feel.
Can you see it?
Maybe over time you will start to visualize what would make you happy when you close your eyes. Imagine the career, home, relationship, lifestyle, and things that you are passionate about and want to pursue. This is where it starts. In those quiet moments alone. I guarantee that once you start doing this, the excitement of the possibilities will keep you doing it. And will slowly motivate you to move towards it. If you can see it and feel it, and it’s amazing, how can you not pursue it? If you can almost taste it, how can you not want it? Believe it. You can get there. But first you must allow yourself to visualize it. To DREAM about it! And dreams can become reality. It may take time, but it can happen. If the desire is great enough, you will draw it to you like a magnet.
Find Your Dreams
It’s really about figuring out what you want (even if it’s not what anyone else wants for you) and starting to move towards it. You don’t need anyone’s approval. If it’s your dream, you need to pursue it. Mind you, it may be a long and winding journey as it has been for me sometimes, but you will get there.
Finding your Dreams Checklist:
- Get quiet and still
- Close your eyes
- Ask yourself what would make you happy
- Visualize it – every aspect of your life
- Use that as your compass – set your goals – follow your dreams
- Believe that you can have the life you visualize for yourself
- Move forward and let the Universe guide you when needed
- Don’t let yourself forget! Remind yourself of your dreams with pictures (vision board), journaling (write down what you want), or even motivating sticky note reminders around your home.
Believe in Your Dreams
Revisit your visions and dreams frequently in quiet moments and notice that they may change as you move forward. Just don’t allow doubt to creep in. Don’t cave, don’t accept less, don’t give up. Know that you can do even what you believe you can’t. Even what seems impossible. You have the power to make it happen.
